308 TO 338 FED.
Is there reason you cant take a DPMS 308 buy a 338 bbl. from DPMS AND IN STALL IT AND HAVE A GOOD 338 FEDERAL TO HUNT WITH

Why don't you ask DPMS as they are the ultimate experts on their rifle. Their web site lists the barrel so I would expect that their people should be able to tell you if there is any other changes needed.... 0 -
I'm not sure what the 338 cartridge is based off of. If its based on the 308 probably all you would need is the barrel. If its based off of some other cartridge you would have to change the bolt, but not the bolt carrier. They both use the same mags so no problem there. This is a interesting question, let us know what you find out. 0 -
Yes. That can be done, but you will need a headspace gauge to do so, and of course the action vise, and barrel wrench. I would think it would be a more viable option to just get an upper, sans the BCG if you wan't a 338 Federal barrel.
In all actuality, the 338 will not give you much more than the 308.

DPMS offers a upper for 338 Federal. I have a Tikka chambered for it and love it. I like it when you want a heavier bullet that is where it out does the 308 0
