Ruger choke tube problem
After shooting yesterday, was cleaning the wife's Red Label 28 ga. I noticed some roughness when I pulled the boe snake through. Looked down the bore & could see something near the choke base. Got the wrench & screwed the choke out carefully. It was rather tight at first.
Worked it back & forth, then it came out fairly easily. About 1/3 of the base of the mod. tube is gone. What would have caused that?

Was the choke tube partially screwed out? Or sounds like the skirt may have been bent inward and the shot\wad did the rest. 0 -
I noticed once it wasn't tight but that was a couple of months ago. It was seated tight & flush when removed. 0 -
Loose tube would be the most common cause. A less common cause could be that the barrel was not threaded properly and the fit of the choke insert is not correct. I have seen this issue occur in some high quality O/U shotguns, I don't know how it could get by QC but it does sometimes. It doesn't seem to take much for the plastic wad build up to cause problems. 0 -
Thanks for the info. 0
