Remington 1911 R1

I was looking at buying a Remington 1911 R1 and was wondering if anyone has had any expericence with this pistol good or bad. Thanks in advance for your advice.

    A friend just got one and we shot it today about 300 rds it functioned perfectly we had 4 different brands of ammo. Just put one on my want list

    From what I understand that is pretty much a copy of the series 80 Colt 1911.

    Unless I misunderstand why people don't like these, there is a trigger safety in the slide that holds the firing pin. Unless all safetys have been depressed. Unfortunately, the firing pin safety spring/pin have been known to pop up during firing of loads of high enough recoil. What happens is the pin goes behind the firing pin and locks it forward. keeping the tip of the firing pin protruding. This mostly causes 'fail to feeds'. However, it has also been known to make the pistol go full auto.

    That said I haven't measured any of the pieces of the new Remington R1, but I hope they have acknowledged and corrected that problem.

    Edit:

    If you get your hands on one this is how to identify it. Clear the weapon (it should already be in the store but you don't always know) Lock the slide back. AT about 1/2" from the rear of the slide on the left hand underside, there will be a small plunger type pin. Pressing that up puts a cut-out on the side of the pin in the firing pin chamber. Which then allows the firing pin to move forward to fire the round. It's this plunger that gets stuck[:(]. Personally, I think it was just one more safety that now adds a danger and should have been removed. Someone with a hands-on with a Remington R1 will be able to verify.
