bulgarian makarov

just received a bulgarian makarov from sog the safety is real hard to work had everything apart including the firing pin because it came packed in cosmoline i noticed a tiny spring under the safty catch is the problem or do i need to replace the catch also?

  I have heard alot about these Makarov's, does anyone out there have any information on these pistols. I am also looking for a chart that shows the difference in the cartridge sizes. Does standard 9mm ammo fit these? What is the 9X18 or 9X19mm?

  You have a normal safety. They are all hard to operate until broken in. Lube won't make a difference. I sat for hours working the safety on mine while watching TV and deveolped a blister and then a callous. It improved a little. Tried the spare safety on hand, still hard. Then I broke out the dremel tool and a grinding bit. Took more metal off the top and bottom of the arc than in the middle. It's a trial and error things. Grind a little and try it, repeat, and when you're sure tha tyou need to grind for the last time STOP. Then you watch TV and work the safety until you're happy with it. Touch up the bluing (Optional) and you're done. Don't grind the spring itself.
  
  Some think the 9x18 is inadequate. I like the simplicity, that feeds just about everything and that it is so reliable.

  Just like mine. Seems to be normal. It's also hard to get the pistol out of the holster with the extra grip that came with it. Even with the regular one you have to use the little leather pull tab.
  Nice to think of them having a hard time getting the pistol out & then getting the safety off.[:D]

  had to buy new safety something wrong with the spring itself new one works fine now as far as that goes with the makarov
