If I refinish this shotgun

If I purchase this gun and go over it from one end to the other and polish the receiver or case color , refinish and repoint the wood, reblue the barrels.

What will the gun be worth when I'm done ? I know less but how much less?

    I cannot lay claim to being an Elsie expert, but in what you describe, you have just killed the collector value, and what is left is the shooter value- about $250-$300. We would also consider you to be a heathen, pagan, Visigoth vandal if you did that.[:p]

    looks great as is. if you buy it, take it out and shoot, shoot, shoot and enjoy it. what it was made to do.

    11b6r pretty much hit the nail on the head in his response.
    That said, there could be a VERY wide range of possible values depending on the quality (DON'T DO IT!!) of any work done. (DON'T DO IT!) If you must have a shotgun to practice on, pick up an old Stevens Warthog and play with that. [:D][:D]

    You'll do nothing to the value, and waste a pile of money in the process. The gun is (and will be) nothing but a shooter. It has replacement barrels and the beavertail is not factory correct.

    Any value has already been destroyed, I would'nt buy it at that price.

    That recoil cushion is also not stock, so likely the butt stock has been altered. You cannot hurt the value, it will always be a shooter, but you can waste a pile of money making it a prettier shooter, not to mention spending twice or more what it is actually worth. Keep looking for a nice Elsie. (Be sure to try the fit before you buy, I love them, but have never found one that fits me worth shucks.
