slugs and chokes
I have 12 ga and a 20 ga that I want to use slugs in. What choke should be used.

Contact the maker and see what they recommend. I would not go beyond modified myself. 0 -
Check the box, with most you will get best results from IC (imporved clyinder) or Clyinder bores. If for deer I recomend getting a barrel for that use. Rifled sights or cantilever your pic. Personally I never was impressed with rifled slugs and am in the process of switching to sabots. Anymore shooting a sabot and a rifled bore shotgun is like having a rifle. 0 -
Either a Cyl.Bore tube or a rifled tube . Rifled tubes can shoot Foster type slugs very well ! Don't waste your money on Sabot Slugs without a rifled barrel ! 0 -
ithaca deerslayers, one of the best slug guns ever, were supplied with cyl-bore barrels 0 -
Ammo choice is paramount also. I have had excellent results using Brenneke slugs, both my duty shotgun (870) and my 1187 have a rifle sighted screw in choke tube barrel on them, and i use a modified choke. 4" groups are the norm, and have had a few one hole groups out of the 1187. Granted, it is a 3" hole, but they were all touching! 3/4" bullets tend to make big holes. Put enough in the group, and they all touch! 0 -
I agree with Jeff, out of a smooth bore modified will usually do the best of the normal chokes.. if you can find a choke tube between improved and modified, they will sometimes do even better in some ways.
as in they will shoot as consistanly or better then modified, but with alittle less recoil..0 -
Okay Guys thanx, I won't use a full choke. a modified choke or what the box recomends is what I'm probly going to use. 0
