Weaver 40/44 Series 4X12X44

I'm looking for a fairly inexpensive, but fairly good quality scope. So I went to a local store which has any manufacture you can think of. Nikon seems to have been a decent scope for the money, so I checked them out. Right next to the Nikon section was Weaver. It seems like Weaver use to be a decent quality brand in the past so I checked a couple out.
The one model that interested me the most was a 4x12x44 model (40/44 series) with a larger bell. The light and clarity were actually better than the Nikons I looked at, and the Nikons had higher price tags.
My questions is basically this; has anyone purchased a newer Weaver in the 40/44 series in 4x12x44.

    Buy wothout regret. Weaver is one of the best values for the money. They are no longer owned by Meade. ATK, parent company to CCI, Olin, Blount, Speer) owns them now. The scopes are still made by LOW (Light Optical Works) in Japan as they have been since 1983.
    Luckily Meade didn't screw with the Weaver line when they owned them like they did Simmons.

    Some gun rag voted that very same scope best of its class last year.

    Saw your poat about the 742. Congrats. Don't let the naysayers scare you. Fine firearm. Keep it clean. A chamber brush is your best friend.

    Along the same lines, Burris has their Timberline line in the "under $200.00" category. They have a nice little 4.5 to 14 AO model. It's a fairly small scope, I have a few on Encore & Contender single shot rifles.
