Bolo/C96

i know that the C96 bolo shoots the 7.63x25. and the 7.62x25 also fits&shoots in it,but my Question is, is it SAFE to do this.i heard that the 7.62x25 is hotter ammo.i would like to use it cause it is cheaper, but is it SAFE to shoot it in a BOLO w/4" bbl,had it looked over and very good condition inside,(1928)[?]

    The actual caliber for the C96 is 7.63mm Mauser or as it is known in this country as 30 Mauser. The Mauser is loaded to lower pressures than 7.62X25mm is loaded for the Tokarov, CZ52 and many sub guns. The only thing that keeps the bolt on a C96 from coming out the rear of the receiver during recoil is the bolt stop. ALWAYS check this part very carefully. If you want to keep the gun intact the lighter 30 Mauser ammo should be used. Yes, I know thousands of rounds of the hotter ammo has been fired in these guns, some safely some not so safe. Remember that when the C96 came out there were many older Mannlicher pistols that fired the same size case but with a lighter load. Same goes for them, fire the hotter ammo at your own risk.

    Why push your luck, with a 80+ year old pistol, that has substantial collectors value. Shooting any sort of hot ammo in it is a recipe for disaster, both for you and the pistol if the bolt stop fractures. Incidentally I ran across some crono data awhile back regarding the S & B commercial 7.63 X 25 loads. Velocity wise it right up there with the surplus military ammo loads. Don't delude yourself that shooting the commercial ammo will be less stressful/dangerous then the Czech or Bulgarian military stuff.

    I would put together some low velocity reloads, that will just function pistol if you want to shoot it.

    Personally I didn't much care for shooting broomhandles when I had the opportunity to shoot them years back. I always seemed to be getting bitten by the hammer, if I just didn't hold them correctly.
