S&W 1917

I came across a S&W 1917. The barrel saw S&W 45 cal. It has been refinished and engraved so I doubt if there is any collector value.

Does it require the 1/2 or full clips to shoot, or will it headspace on the case lip and fire?

I realize it won't eject the cases.

    I use full moon clips in mine or 45 auto rim.

    Clips? Your call. absolutely no diff in function. Now, reloading the gun..the full moon clips will stack in a speedloader pouch quite nicely, thank you!

    With two speed loader pouches on your belt, you will have a total of thirty rounds carried (rounds in the gun included), and after you overcome the mumble-de-peg with your fingers, you will be able to perform a reload at lightning speed. (Note, I didn't say faster than a M1911, because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings here)[:0]

    S&W revolvers and late war production Colts had a chamber ridge the same length as the autos. Non moon-clip firing will be Okay. Bring a pencil with you.

    Yes.
    If you use the plastic Rimz clips, you have to specify the actual model of gun, a 1917, M25, or early 625 is not the same as a current 625. Steel clips don't care.

    If you want to see speed reloading, look for Jerry Miculek on a search of the web. I have seen him do it in exhibition, and it is
    simply amazing to watch.
