what is this? Value?

I'm researching a rifle my friends grandfather brought home from Germany after WWI. It's small, very similar to a single shot .22. it has a walnut stock that's been repaired. The butt of the pistol grip is rounded like the old Belgium A5's. Stamped on the bottom of the barrel is what appears to be a serial number, F95728. On the right side of the barrel is a vertical stamping with from the top down is a crown, the letter B, another symbol, and then the letter U. On the left side of the barrel it says KAL 6 mm Flobert Gezogen 5.4 mm. On the left side of the receiver it says GUSTAV GENSCHOW & CO AKT. GES. ABTL. WAFFENFABRIK
BERLIN-SPANDAU. On the ring between the barrel and the receiver is a symbol that is a big "G" with ECO inside of it. There is the number 728 on the top of the bolt handle. I placed a .22 short in the chamber and it seemed to fit fine but I didn't try firing it. Overall I'd say it's in fair condition. Thanks for any help !

    Gustav Genschow was a large German firearms and sporting goods retailer/distributor. "GECO" was a Trade Name used by them. The Proof Marks are the standard ones used on German firearms made prior to 1939. "Flobert" was a name commonly used in Europe for inexpensive single shot rimfire firearms. In fair condition not likely it's going to be worth a lot of money.

    Your Flobert fires 6mm (.22 caliber) BB caps. Do NOT fire modern .22 shorts in it. It was made for indoor parlor shooting.

    Hello Spider---Just thought I'd point out that 6mm is .243/244, not 223/22. Just in case someone was to rely on that. Hawkshaw

    Originally, Flobert ammunition was by definition a cartridge wherein the priming and propellant charges were one and the same. More recently, rimfire cartridges, small shot cartridges and Flobert cartridges supporting a round-nose bullet were developed to contain a small additional amount of powder as a supplementary propellant charge, thus enabling a more effective cartridge to be produced. These are the cartridges in use today.

    Spider is correct. I agree with him completely.
    If you are not going to use the rifle, I may need the extractor from it.

    Thanks guys. I did Google this and got some info on this gun. Very interesting. I might pick up some ammo and try it out. Does anyone know what this gun is worth ? Thanks.

    Not much collector value. My dad used to sell them for $5 in the 1960's. In the condition you described ("fair" with repaired stock), probably somewhere between $75-$125.

    sorry, but despite what the advertisement says, 6mm is NOT .22. it will shoot thru older guns (worn) and smooth bore guns like the rifle in question. but it's still .243 as hackshaw mentioned. 6.35mm is .25 in case anyone was wondering.....[:)]
