Remove buttstock from german double
I have a boxlock. Its German. There is no bolt through the back of the buttstock. There is one screw under the top lever and one screw under the trigger guard. If I remove those the receiver is very loose but will not come off. Should I pry up the lower tang? Is it supposed to open there on the bottom tang so I can separate the butt stock from the receiver?

Some times the tang is part of the trigger guard if so you remove the one screw at rear this will allow the trigger guard itself to rotate and unscrew from the receiver.
EDIT. Is that the Miller Va Greiss if so remove the two screws that hold the front of the trigger guard this will let you remove the rear of the trigger guard and then you will uncover another Bolt screw. to allow you to remove butt stock.0 -
I got those screws but it still wont come off. I afraid to force it/ 0 -
Don't FORCE that is too nice of a gun to ruin a part that you will never find a replacement for. Take it to a Gunsmith that works on High end doubles. Get a copy of Double Gun Journal if you don't have a local gunsmith .. There are many listed in D.G.J. 0 -
It could be stuck due to years of oil or varnish buildup but don't chance it. Take Perry Shooter's advice. 0
