remington 1100 Help
Picked up a Remington 12ga ShotGun 1100 dirt cheap. Cleaned it up and install new Stock/Forend and turned it in to a HD. The Barrel is marked 3" Magnum Does that mean I can shoot 2 3/4 and 3 shells. Test Fired ShotGun and the 2 3/4 wont cycle the ShotGun but 3's will I Cut Barrel down to 18.5, Barrel has 1 gas port. Can I drill port bigger or get a barrel 18.5 long with 2 gas ports then will it cycle with 2 3/4 shells. This ShotGun takes 2 seal o rings is that normal. Would like to used the 2 3/4 shells in this ShotGun if I can.

If your shotgun SN ends in M, N, or U, then you have a 3" magnum shotgun & must use magnum shells for it to function correctly.

you can buy an additional barrel chambered for the 2 3/4" shells. DO NOT drill an additional hole or enlarge the one thats there. some one some time will try to shoot a 3" in the altered barrel and 'bend up' the action. 0 -
Mike will a barrel 18.5 with 2 gas ports in 2 3/4 shoot ok. 0 -
"Mike will a barrel 18.5 with 2 gas ports in 2 3/4 shoot ok.".....yes, your barrel should function ok with 'warmer' 2 3/4" ammo also (hvy 1 1/4 oz loads or 'baby' mags.) 0 -
Sir, some 1100's with 3" barrels will shoot 2and3/4" heavy loads such as 1and1/2oz or maybe 1and1/4oz. But, I have never seen one that will shoot trap loads and eject them. Yes, you can buy a barrel chambered for 2and3/4" shells and it should work fine. 1100's marked with an M after the serial number have the longer ejection port for 3" shells. 0 -
i have had 3 inch mag 1100s as well as 2 3/4 none had 2 o rings.anyone know about this? 0 -
I too have never seen a double o-ring on an 1100.. The barrel on an 1100 controls the shell to be used, by the chamber size, ejector location and the single or double gas ports...All of this is in the barrel....The receivers (magnum vs non-magnum) are Identical in size, thickness, ejection port size, etc. etc... with the exception of the word "MAGNUM" and the letters in the serial #... Take this to the bank....
