gunsmith dinged my stock
The gunsmith put a real ding in my butt stock. I had just refinished it. It was like glass and I sent it to him for a recoil pad. He did a nice job on the pad. I guess the ding was a bonus. I think I'll try super glue. Should I try steaming it out first? Its a sharp ding with clean sharp edges.

I would tell the Gunsmith about it, maybe he would have an idea or he could replace your stock. 0 -
"Sent it?" Did you pack it well, & did he when he returned it?
Whatever, you need to discuss it with the gunsmith; that is one reason why he has business insurance. Steaming only works IF the wood fibers are unbroken, & even when it works, you have to refinish the entire piece.

Super glue will be your best bet, sharp edges don't react well to steaming..... 0 -

If the finish on your stock is similar to that of a Weatherby's high gloss finish I use my wife's clear nail polish. First clean the area of any oils, then using a small artists brush apply the nail polish , dabbing a tiny bit at a time and let it level out. Keep adding polish until it's higher than the surrounding surface. Let it dry completely, then wet sand with 2000 grit wet/dry paper you can obtain from an auto paint store. Finally get some Nevr- Dull and rub the repair and surrounding area 0 -
