Can I shoot?

I just bought a browning cynergy O/U and it is marked 12 ga. 2 3/4 on the barrel. I have a case of 12 ga. shot shells that are 3 in. # 7 1/2 shot. Can I shoot these with this gun with out doing any damage?

    No Sir,

    Unless your gun is marked 2 3/4" & 3", you can not shoot them. Well, you can, but you will most likely not care for the results.

    Math was never my strong point but will a 3" shell fit in a 2 3/4" tube without help from a hammer?

    The critical part here is not what rounds will or will not chamber, but how long will the shell casing be after the round is fired.

    It's easiest to understand by looking at a plastic shotshell. The last 1/2" is folded over the shot until you fire it, at which point it will extend forward. If your shell is too long for the gun's chamber, that front 1/2" will be in the bore, not the chamber, creating an obstruction. And, an obstruction increases pressure until...kaboom.

    It will fit, but the mouth of the 3" shell will open up inside the forcing cone area of the 2 3/4 chamber, reducing the diameter that the shot/wad column must be forced through.

    Shotgun shells are measured by their fired length, not their loaded length. Stand a "X" length slug load (with it's rolled crimp) next to a "X" length shot load (with it's folded crimp) and note the length difference. Now go fire both of them and compare again.

    Thanks for the info. I guess that I will try and find someone to swap me my 3 in. shot shells for 2 3/4.
