Can anyone tell me why....

NO one makes a good 8rd magazine for a 1911! All of the ones that I have bought will NOT feed any round except a 230 ball round from a fully loaded 8rd magazine. I have tried Chip Mck, Kimber, Colt, Wilson and numerous unnamed brands. The ONLY ones that work 100% of the time are 7rd mags from a military 45.

Everytime the top round of a fully loaded mag will "nosedive" into the frame when the slide tries to pick it up and feed it into the chamber.

I carry a factory stock Kimber on duty and would love to have a reliable 8rd magazine to work with. So I guess I am stuck 7rd mags, but at least they work!

    If you have tried all of them 8 round mags, you have something up with your pistol. I had okay results with some and great results with the McCormick 8 rounders, as well as others.

    The Wilson Combat mags worked flawlessly from my experience. Which isn't too much but roughly 500 rounds through the 2 of them and NEVER had a hick up. But for the price, I expected nothing less.

    Im not sure how it could be my gun when the 7rd mags work without a hitch. It seems to me that whatever the issue is from the angle or spring of that extra round seems to be the issue. Other than those mags my Kimber has never failed to feed in 10yrs that I have had it.(about 1000+ plus rounds).

    ??? I have shot thousands, Thousands of 200g RN plated, cast, FMJ and LSWC bullets through 8&10 round McCormick mags without any feeding problems.

    You may have a cartridge length issue if you are reloading.

    The 45ACP is the same diameter at the case mouth as at the Base. The angle does not change in relation to the follower to magazine lips as you put more rounds in a magazine. Two things happen the spring is compressed making it harder to push down .So it pushes up harder however at the same time the weight of the loaded cartridge is helping to keep the top cartridge from pressing Harder on the magazine feed lips. I have never had any problem with 8 round mags but then I very seldom use a completely loaded 8 rounder I normally shoot five shot strings. I would look at the extractor tension . Too much tension can cause your type of Problem along with slightly rough feed ramp on barrel. I hope this is not the Kimber II with external extractor Then all bets are off trying to adjust extractor tension.

    I have all Wilson's, both magazines and the 1911's themselves. I have never had a problem. However, I know a guy that got rid of all of his Kimbers, the light weight framed models, as they were constantly stopping. Have you tried these in any other guns? Perhaps it is the weapon, and not the magazine?

    I've been shooting Wilson 8rd. mags for about 30yrs. in matches, and have NEVER had one not feed 200gr. swc [;)]
    I have a couple fo Chip's mags and they work just as good as my old Wilsons.
    Have a GOOD 1911 smith look over your 1911 [:0] It needs it

    I use NOVAKS with no problems after 6000 rounds. keep thinking about new springs but they still work great.

    I use McCormick mags, they have never failed in my colt. My colt is a completely standard special combat 1911 and it came with the magazines from the factory.
