    As they mention in passing, this is what is more commonly called the Heeren action.
    To open, stick your thumb through the trigger guard and push forward and down. As shown in the picture, the trigger guard pivots from the rear, drawing the breechblock down. Load the chamber and push the trigger guard back up into position to raise the breechblock.
    As I recall the funny looking trigger is a double set. Push the rear blade forward, then a light pull on the front blade fires.

    Very beautiful piece of ART & History..Google had a few informative articles on the action but, i could find no diagram that actually showed HOW IT OPERATES...(other than the explanations)

    The way that thing looks to me is like it's a reverse lever action falling block. With a set trigger of course, and instead of like American lever actions this one requires a release.

    Of course, the post-Civil War Sharps type rifles you had to 'half-cock' the hammer before you could drop the lever. If you don't, it breaks firing pins.

    If you read the comments one guy asked what kind of scope that is. Apparently, I'm pretty much a gun junkie because I knew right away that was a Swarovski. And, I don't care what power it is because I know that scope will show me however far away what I want to hit.

    yeah, i've read the descriptions, but i guess i need to see the action "in action" to understand it.
    wonder what the perceived advantage of it was? must have been some advantage advertised to produce such a complicated mechanism!

    sandy, agree about the swarovski scopes. wish i could afford one![:p]
