H&R .22 revolver question
I am looking at a .22 revolver in my local gun shop. It's an H&R 9-shot revolver with what I would call a "slab" sided barrel,it only has the flats along the sides. It also has a locking mechanism on the butt of the handgrip that locks the hammer by turning a key.I was told it is 34 years old which would make it around 1976? Does this sound right? It is in really good shape showing no wear and looks to be in 95 per cent or better condition.Any idea what they are worth?

I looked at the auctions and there is a model 603 .22 magnum listed that looks like the gun I'm asking about. The one I found is .22 long rifle. 0 -
4406v,
I can tell you that, I believe, the keylock was an optional feature. ...but, I am not certain of the years it was offered. The 9-shot that you are looking at may be an "ULTRA SIDE-KICK", otherwise known as a "Model 939". Here is one with a push-through-the-hammer cylinder release (in addition to the normal pull-pin release):

...though, you could be looking at another model.[;)]
Good luck with your quest!0 -
It is a model 939,
The key lock feature was offered in 1962, and discontinued in 1972.
Value,
100% = 295
98% = 260
95% = 220
90% = 180
80% = 155

List or email me the 2 letter prefix of the serial #, and I will tell you year of manufacture.

I may have beat Bill to the keyboard, but, what you all should know, is that he is the author of the H&R section of the Blue Book of gun values!
I just pass along his information.
p.s. that's a great price!
Don't let it get away for $ 100!0 -
Just to set the record straight: The keylock on the 939 was first offered in 1959. I have a piece with original serial number starting with 'U'(1958) that was retrofitted with the keylock and a 'V' prefix (1959) was then hand stamped before the original serial # on the butt. 0 -
Between Bill's research, and 32 Magnum's physical proof, you are bound to come up with the right answer.
THE 2 experts, IMO!
