need a load for an old mod 89 swiss

this is a 7.5x55 but it cant Handle gp11 ammo need gp90. gun was made in 1883
was told i could load it down to 30-40 krig but I'm researching this first. the gun is like the K11 AND K31 just cant take the psi.

any one load for this, also will post this on the reload site also

    first trim 1/2 millimeter from case,37 grains imr 3031, cci 250 primer , hornady 180 grain roundnose, oal 2.90, this load is safe and accurate in my rifle

    38 gr. of any flavor 4895 behind a 168/175 gr. bullet for a bout 2200-2300.

    Interesting Rusty gave you the advice to trim .020" (.5mm) from the case. The date you gave does precede the standardized case and rifle of 1889. Are you sure your rifle {edit:}isn't an 1893? Certainly worth researching as to why, anyway. It isn't going to hurt if you did go ahead and trim and shoot the cases that way.

    I answered over on the reloading forum, but to add to that, a chamber cast would be the only way to determine your 'true' trim to length. An 1889 with a tad long throad might be fine with standard 7.5X55 brass.

    could this be done also by seating the bullet to say 3.0 OAL and keep seating till the bolt will close then seat a tad bit more.
    i know a standard GP11 WILL FIT AND SHUT but a fired case from my K31 WILL NOT CHAMBER , so the mod 89 must be tighter tolerance then the K31.

    HAVE TO ASK

    yours is an older model 1889 and older?

    i dont have my book here right now to check how much less this is from a load for a K11 OR K31

    The reason the fired round from the K31 won't fit is it has a wider cut shoulder in the chamber than the older 1889-1911 and up to the K31. GP11=.460 @ shoulder, K31=.475 @ shoulder. Even though the GP11 round is what is fired through the K31. It has tight headspace and room to expand.

    Also, shortening the seating length won't solve the problem of needing to trim brass. Brass that is too long in the neck wants to wedge into the leade. The leade is that part just forward of the mouth of the case in the chamber. The un-rifled part of the barrel the exposed part of the bullet sits in. That would create too high of pressure. But if you trim it back it won't hurt anything. You'll just have room to grow.

    rusty, my book has 3031 min charge for k31 at 34.4 max at 38.5.


    37 would be in the middle for the k31.

    an old reload book i have showes 180gr @35.8 3031 for the k11

    i have shot 180 spt bt imr3031 35.8gr oal was 2.980 lr cci 200 worked fine in the k11.

    what im thinking is at is 37gr is not a light load for a 1883

    think what you like, i shoot this load quite a bit , i never had any problems with it, but if you think its too much don't use it

    DON'T GET ME WRONG I'M ASKING THE ?????? AND LOVE ANY ANSWERS I GET,

    BUT WHEN I'M TOLD IN THE LEE BOOK DO NOT USE THIS LOAD DATA FOR THE MOD 89 SWISS I HAVE TO ASK FOR MORE INFO.

    says mod 89 will not with stand modern load GP11 that is about all the data under k31 swiss in the reloading books.
