    There is a wood shop in northern Va. that makes stocks and sells wood in the raw. I suggest you find something like this guy within driving distance and take your butt-stock with you and see if you can match the color and grain type to some of his scrap wood. In my opinion it is not about what type of wood but more about an individual loge and the gut out of that log . a quarter sawed section of the same log will look entirely different from a cross sawed piece of this log. See if you can find someone that make hand made furniture. he might be able to help. I take it you dont have the piece that broke off [:(] a good stock guy can epoxy /repair much better then graft another piece from another log no matter what you buy. YMMV

    Hello Frank the wood is WALNUT. Please read my first post . Even if you found a scrap of the original log your stock was made of at the long ago closed Factory . It would NOT match if it was from one side of the trunk and yours from the other side of the same trunk. Go to a hand made wood worker shop and ask to see his scrap pile take your butt-stock with you. the reason you have not gotten any other replies is the question has been answered.
