Marlin 336 35 Remington
I just put a deposit on this rifle at the local pawn shop. Its in real nice shape. My question is what is the best receiver(peep)sight to put on this gun??????

Can't advise you on the sight--the older 336's were drilled and tapped on the side while the newer ones take a sight that attaches to the top using the d&t holes for the scope mount.
I have an older Weaver K2.5 on mine and handloads consisting of 200 gr. Sierra RN and 40 gr. of IMR4895 produce 2100 fps and six 5-shot groups averaged 1.52". Many of my bolt guns won't do as well. Good luck with yours.0 -
If you have an older one with two threaded holes on left side then
without a doubt, get a Williams 5D.
Newer recievers have holes on top that XS makes a sight for.

The Williams 5D is indeed good for older Marlins. I like the one on mine.
Williams makes one to fit top scope base screw holes called the Guide receiver sight. I have one on a different model of rifle, and it is quite satisfactory.
I'm not familiar with XS sights, so no recommendation one way or the other.0 -
They have been around so long there should be no issues finding some. For that gun you may consider looking into other sighting options as well. Lots of choices. Great fun gun. 0 -
I would go with the Williams Foolproof receiver sight. It is a bit more expensive than the 5D, but well worth the extra. Its a lot more precision in adjusting the sight and you don't have to worry about the slide loosening up and changing the aiming point. 0 -
Thanks for the info everyone. I've pretty much decided on the Williams FP.The gun will be used for hog hunting in SC so i figure I don't need a scope. 0
