Magazine trouble with Universal M-1

I have aN M-1 made by Universal. The magazines seem to not fully engage with the top of the magazine well. It does not always have feed problems, but it is not always the same magazine or the same ammunition. Any ideas?

  The magazine does not engage with the top of the magazine well, it engages with the magazine catch.
  
  If you are using 30 rd mags, you need to switch to 15 rd mags.

  Universals use an aluminum trigger housing. The magazine catch wears quickly in the aluminum, especially if the magazine is used as a front grip. A new trigger housing may be in order. Numrich may have them. You have to use a Universal part. I have converted these to GI steel trigger housings, but it leaves a gap in the stock.
