i have a receiver for a standard .22 rifle that is made in belgium. it is the old model that had a screw through the bottom of the pistol grip. the receiver has no serial number. did browning serial number the earlier guns on another part of the rifle?

No serial on frame, I am pretty sure they stamped it on the back of the stock in the hole that the loading rod goes into. 0 -
Yes, unusually, my serial # is on the bbl. 0 -

Sorry gentleman, they didnt put serial no's. on barrels with the screw thru the Pistol grip. This gun was most likely an old wheel sight gun with the only serial no. (if any) inside of the loading rod port on the rear of the stock.
Browning did not put serial no's on auto-22's until after 1955.

Without doing further research, at least I have an example without a serial # on the receiver. 0 -
i also have one, the # is on the bottom of the barrel under the forend 0 -
On some of these the serial number is on the face of the receiver, visible only with the barrel assembly removed. 0
