Fire Bluing

I have been rust bluing for awhile and would like to incorporate a fire blue on some of these guns receivers. Is the a simple way to do this process at home? Where can some one find kilns that don't cost an arm and a leg? Are there any other methods of doing it beside kiln firing? And do any of you care for the high blue gloss of the screw heads on fire bluing receivers?

  fire blued screws against a good color case finish is really nice, stands out and almost sparkles , had that on an old peacemaker years ago. Bob

  BROWNELL'S OFFER A 'NITER BLUEING' PROSESS WHICH PRODUCES VERY SIMILAR RESULTS. WHOWEVER BOTH METHODS USE HEAT WHICH CAN CHANGE THE 'TEMPER' OF HEAT TREATED STEEL.

  Fire blue is done at the same temp as spring tempering, 560 degrees F. which can be done in most kitchen ovens. Try it on a polished piece of scrap. Or my article in Brownell's gunsmiths.com ---

  Thank you fellas that was helpful. I understand some of the bluing companies use a bubbling oil bath for even more striking colors. Can that be done with any type oil?
