cleanest way to remove old nickel plating
Got an old no name 1911 slide that was nickel plated who nows how long ago. The plating has flaked off in some areas and I want to just remove it and perhaps parkerize?? What is the cleanest quickest cheapest way to get it all off? I looked at Brownells Super Strip and it is $85. I need it to be cheap. I've heard some people use sulfuric acid. Not sure if that would work for me but am open to it if anyone can provide some insights. Thanks

Soak it in Hoppe's #9 for a week; it should come right off.
OTOH, is it worth fooling with?

I did not see a Nickel Stripper on there. I did see their nickel stripping kit which was $450. Probably not worth it to me. I did see a copper stripper for $35. If they have a similar product for nickel I am sold. 0 -

On my '70 series Colt commander that had the satin nickle plating, I bead blasted the finish off and had it hard chromed. 0
