Remove the two trigger pins and the trigger group. Look up in the reciever and see if something is broken, or worn out.
www.brownells.com has break down schematics. Go to factory parts section.
The bolt or tube arms might be worn out or broke.0 -
Inspection of the bolt, and plate under the bolt, first require removal of the barrel. Those parts ride together on the action bars of the slide and all slide out of the receiver, where the barrel was, when it's not "broken". That plate has tabs that sit in the notches on the action bars. The bolt sits on the plate. In order to remove the slide you have to hold the shell latches back against the inside of the receiver one at a time as you bring the slide forward off the magazine tube.
You may want to look for an NRA or Gun Digest book for disassembly instructions if you are not somewhat familiar with how this all comes apart and back together.0 -
Google "870/youtube" for a video on takedown for the 870 shotgun. The video is short and will tell you all you need to know. If the foregrip has been slid back to the receiver and the trigger is pulled it will cause something such as you have described. If this is the case, you must push down the hammer to the locked position. Then the foregrip can be slide back to original slot. Good luck and hope this helps. 0
