Adjusting Unertl Scope
I have finished sighting in my 16 power Unertl scope and now my question is.....how do you dis-engage the adjustment caps for windage and elevation so that I can set them to the "zero" position? Really nice scope.... to be used for prairie dog hunting and want to be able to add clicks for elevation and windage and then return the dials to the "zero" mark when finished. I understand Unertl is out of business and data is hard to come by. Thanks for any help......Snowy

I have a pamphlet from Unertl in a scope box in the back of my gunsafe that will probably tell you how to set the w and e knobs to zero. It is not easy to get to so will wait to see if someone answers the question before I go to the trouble to dig it out. I just remember the setting of "zero" on mine and don't bother to set the knobs to "0". 0 -
Most target scopes have knobs that are read like a Micrometer There are both numbers on the knob and a vertical line with Horizontal Hash Marks. The amount of movement of POI changes because the scope bases can be different distance apart depending on what rifle they are mounted on. The further the front base is from the rear base the smaller movement of POI you will get for each click. 0 -
You sight the rifle in for a specific distance. Then you turn the elevation a number of clicks up until you have impact at the new yargage, usually measured with rangefinder or defined by position. You remember those up clicks and turn down the exact number back to zero. With practice at measured distances you begin to fill in the blanks for intermediate distances with up clicks of elevation. Windage is variable with intensity and direction compensated with l/r clicks and then returned to zero with the clicks reversed. You can zero the knobs but at some point you may require so many clicks of adjustment so as to make a complete revelation of the knob and you must turn back that amount to zero. You can go by the scale on the shaft but difficult to see under shooting conditions. You can also remove the unertl from the bases ,reinstall and be darn close to zero. You also can change power by just changing the eye piece.
