removing old parkerizing?
Me and an old friend are going to experiment on one of his old shotguns. I know blasting is best, but we are on a tight budget. So the question is, can I remove the old parkerizing by another means?
I was thinking using some sort of acid would work, but did not want to damage the pin holes.

I'd just bead blast it and redo it.
If you are getting into parkerizing, go to Harbor Frieght and get the blast cabinet that is on sale now.0 -
if you guys just want to apply some kind of different finish or park it yourselves, thats cool. but just take it completely apart and take the parts that you want to finish to your local gunsmith and tell him that all you want to do is blast off the old finish. the very most he will charge will be about 20 bucks if that. give it a try. 0 -
What kind of old shotgun does he have that is Parkerized?
Most are blued except for military surplus or something that has already been refinished once.0 -
fastcarsgofast,
Is it possible you are asking about color case or rust blue and not parkerizing?
I may not have seen every type or make of shotgun available but I can be fairly sure that parkerizing was not a process used for old shotguns.
Maybe a picture would help us help you?
