Lacquer or oil?

Which is better for wood grips? I'm planning on buying a set and finishing them myself. Just considering alternatives. I've used oil on rifle and shotgun stocks, time consuming but nice results. Don't care for polyurethane.

  Personal preference.
  
  I like oil, but lacquer can work too.

  As said above, personal preference. I prefer oil for one reason, it is easier to "fix" if it gets dinged, scratched etc than any other finish. Additionally, I like the way oil brings out the natural look of the wood. JMHO

  Tung oil or boiled linseed oil are the only two I use with fantastic results. More work, but most woods look better with oil finishes, IMHO. Either grips or stocks, oil is the way to go.[;)]

  I always used lacquer on a few stocks and many restored Gerstner chests. I thought they turned out great ... until I saw what an expert can do with an oil finished stock. Anyone interested, just e-mail me for his contact info.

  Thanks for the input. Oil it is, but it won't be from BP. Not worried about slipping. Grips will be checkered.
