Nazi P38

Just curious what the value on a Nazi marked P38 with Nazi marked holster would be. All numbers match except the barrel. Probably 85% condition.

Sorry, no pictures. A fellow here in town wants to trade me and my pistol has about a $500.00 value. Just curious if it's a decent deal?

    There was more than a single P-38 manufacturer with slight variations between makers, prices vary by date as well as specific collector niches. We need more information; like the markings at the very least.It could be an absolute steal at $500 or you may be paying too much. WIth what we have to work with there is no way to tell.

    Very hard to give you any guidance in this matter without quality photos or at the very least a very clear description of all markings/numbers on the P 38. It could be a mismatched East Bloc rework worth $300, or a AC no date worth a couple of thousand.

    As far as collectors are concerned 85% is kind of marginal finish wise. Depending how it looks it might be considered just a shooter at 85%, making $500 a iffy proposition value wise.

    The photos you sent me show a pretty typical byf (Mauser code) dated 1943 with wa135 acceptance stamps.I am not a P-38 expert but this is a very common variation with something like 150,00 produced. Condition is everything on a common pistol and yours looks right at the 85% you described. I know that we have some sharp P-38 guys on the boards who'll know far more them I do, but I am thinking a value more like $400.

    If the holster is richeous? (ever time I see one with still white thread I have misgivings, 65 years after the war). If the bore isn't rusted out and it's all matching? My WAG with authentic holster?, $600 - $800.


    Sorry I missed the reference to the mismatched barrel in the first post. Chances are that the holster is a repo also. Marks estimate would be a lot closer to it's actual value.

    MOONED......sorry I got on a bit late. $500 for the gun and holster sounds like a good deal to me, but the kicker is the holster. Need to put it under a black light to see if it is the "real deal" but the stitching looks right, to my naked eye. You can usually see the shiny repro holsters right off and this one doesn't look like that. If the holster is right, the buy at $500 is a good deal as correct holsters in that kind of condition bring up to $150+ so you are getting the gun, replaced barrel and all, for $350. I can make $ on that. You don't mention the mags....how many? Correct? Heck, they are bringing $50+ per now. I would go back and check. Good luck!

    There are two magazines with the pistol. One is Nazi stamped, the other only has "JVD" on the left side of the magazine. The holster has "CWW" on the top-left side of the back, followed by eagle over swastika with WaA392 below. Further to the right is 1943, and a large P38. The fellow actually called me this morning and told me he was going to be right down the road from my office, so I figured I might as well go check the pistol out for myself. The pistol is actually better condition than I originally suspected, and the holster is absolutely great. Inside the holster is a single "band" of leather which supports the majority of the weight of the gun (I guess) so as not to "bottom out"?? the flap is great with a single strap which comes from the top, then through a "buckle" on the lower portion of the holster. A really good quality holster. So, the pistol I had to trade this fellow was with me, it "was" one of my daily carry pieces. As the story goes, I found myself unable to control myself and made the trade. I'm happy and I guess that's all that matters.

    Please understand that I definitely appreciate the opinions listed previously in this topic. I use this site almost daily for a variety of information and have found Rufe, Gary & Mark to ALL be very generous with their responses, and opinions. They (as well as others) continue to provide me personally a wealth of knowledge and have guided me in making better decisions in several purchases. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is I appreciate your advice but found it hard to pass up on this particular pistol.

    Magazines only matched on early Walther {code AC} which were made until 1941 ie AC41 or AC40 Byf and Cyq didn't have numbers BUT one of the early Walthers could have been switched into a byf The holtster should have a date lightly impressed but only the last two numbers like 43 most common war holsters are at least $100 and the real early ones like 1940 can be two or three times more. $400 for a decent war Walther is a good deal.
