Thompsson Encore/Contender....

I got a question - an Encore or Contender (can't tell which model from the pics I received) as pistol, can it have a rifle buttstock mounted.?

I mean, are the pistolgrips/buttstocks interchangeable between the rifle/pistol-models.???

    Yes, no problem just swap them out. There are some legal issues in some countries about the swap, so check your regs first.

    There is no difference in a pistol receiver and a rifle receiver except for how it is registered from the factory.

    what he said but will add that if its a new G 2 Contender then it takes a different stock than the older contenders ,

    T/C changed the frame just a little so none of the older style grips or stocks fit on the new G2 frame

    so pretty much you have

    all Encores interchange with each other
    all G 2 Contenders interchange
    and pretty much all the older contender stocks / grip interchange

    if its a Encore frame it wll say Encore on the side , if its a newer G 2 frame it looks just like a Encore frame only smaller and if its the older contender frame it will have smooth side usually with a couger engraving on it

    There's really no reason to do it with a rifle, I think, but on the G2 Contender being used as a handgun Pachmayer made (makes?) a very nice walnut grip with a rubber backstrap for the old style Contender - really helps with heavy recoiling calibers. It can be modified to work on the G2 by deepening & opening the guts a bit and clearing some wood behind the trigger guard - really not too much work. I used Brownells Acraglass to fill in and match the G2's grip frame & stud. I like some of the heavier recoiling calibers (and don't like plastic) and the Pachmayer grip works very well, makes a difference to me in felt recoil.

    If you install a rifle stock on the frame the barrel will need to be 16 1n. to be legal.

    That is only in the USA. Other countries do not have to follow the BATFE's hitleristic rule book.

    Sometimes pointless and stupid Hitleristic rulebook. But, barrel length is an issue to be looked at where ever you buy one.

    Just a friend of mine who ran into a guy who has a pistol version, and he would really much like it.

    But he can't get it as a pistol, and has to convert it to a rifle - that is do-able here.


    I just wanted to see if there was any issues between the pistol/rifle-versions that would make it impossible. =o)

    I'm aware about the US regulations - about it being a hazzle to switch from one category to another.
    But figured you experts here, would be the place to ask. =o)


    For some reason or another, the seller has it as a sporting pistol - but wishes to sell it.
    And my friend doesn't shoot pistol, so he can't easily get the permit - but it could be converted (seller keeps the pistol-grip).

    The barrel was long enough, but I don't recall the caliber.
