beretta 96 polish question
I have a Beretta model 96 blued that shows holster wear. Can this piece be polished ( and remove the blueing) to give a high polished finish? Thank you, Joe.

It can but you most likely will not want to spend the time to remove all bluing and if you leave HIGH POLISH with no finish it will quickly RUST. 0 -
I believe your pistol is likely not blued, but has Beretta's proprietary Bruniton finish. If so, it requires professional restoration.

Well, to expand on this a bit, the Beretta 92 frames are made of aluminum, and have an anodized finish.
The barrels are Parkerized.
The Brunition finish is ONLY on the slides, and as you've noted, its not all that durable compared to the finishes on some other military guns (eg the Glocks).
Older (eg pre '85) Beretta slides will have a high polish blued finish.
Sure, its possible to remove the Brunition finish from the slide, then polish the gun, then apply traditional bluing if you like. You could also refinish with Duracoat, parkerizing, Cerakote, or any other finish of your choice.
I definitely would NOT remove the Brunition finish, and leave naked (unfinished) metal, though. That's just asking for the gun to rust/corrode.

Alternatively, if you want a silver look to your gun, you could probably swap out the standard slide for one in stainless steel ("INOX") to get a two-tone appearance. That won't be cheap, but the results will probably be unique!0
