BOLO/ C96/ MAUSER

just traded for a 1928-29 model bolo serial #709590, 7.63x25. anyway way,took it out to test fire.fired twice and then the trigger went limp.unloaded ammo did a dry run everthing worked fine,then reloaded/ shot and same thing happened,trigger will not recock [:(] .what might be wrong and does anybody know who works on them+has parts for it. really like the gun all matching #'s,no import names,50% condition. would like to keep.is it worth saving[?]have less than 500 in it. maybe ? refinish it.i just need it to work OK. for now.     what caliber and ammo are you using? the 7.63's like to run hot. the later 9mm production and conversions run well on fiochi. an all original bolo for $500 is well worth saving.
    they also like to be clean and lubed. not for the faint of heart to strip, but you can spray a lot of gunscrubber (with the nozzle extension) and the lube the same way. the dry lubricants like moly actually work very well. wet lubricant in aerosol are good too.

    i don't reload so i can't use any thing else but factory ammo.must say those rounds i did fire ,sure was a good recoil.still looking for someone to be able to work on it. what's it take to convert to 9mm,or is it still better to just fix the problem. thanks for the tip on cleaning , Tom

    Below is a link to the basic C-96 breakdown, disassembly, and most importantly assembly. The Bolo (Bolshevik Contract) is basically a C-96 with altered barrel length, sights, and handle size.

    Pay close attention to the re-assembly segment. It shows common errors in putting the darn thing back together. Since we don't know what bozo put yours together after tinkering with it, you may only have an improper re-assembly problem. Good luck! Here's the link. Joe

    To switch to 9 m/m, you have to re-line the bbl, which I would not recommend on a matching piece. Nor, re-finish it yet. Should you wish to do so in the future, I am having my Bolo re-lined and refinished at the Broom Closet. 904-964-5053. They do not have a web site. If you are not mechanically inclined, I would not recommend taking the Rubick's cube of internal parts apart.

    Above correct if you are going to 'freshen up' a 7.63 Mauser barrel. If merely switching to 9mm, all that is required is to bore out the barrel to the appropriate diameter, (8.82mm), cut new rifling, and install the 9mm magazine follower. Re-lining is only necessary if the barrel is shot out, and the customer wants to keep the gun chambered in 7.63 Mauser. Best, Joe

    joe speaks the truth. there's some guns out there that have had a "new" barrel fitted (cut off the old one and weld on a new one. i don't think it was a very popular conversion technique, but i've handled/shot one and really couldn't tell with the re-finish. most are just bored out to 9mm or sleeved. there's a guy in florida that will sleeve one for $125. for another $150 he'll strip it down and refinish it. any parts needing replaced are extra.
    i've seen his work and wouldn't hesitate to use him. i'll try and find his # if you want.

    i would like to keep it as near as original as possible,same cal.,same finish.just want it to work the way it was intended,so if i can send it to one of these guys to go through it an replace the springs or slide stop and see about the trigger that would be just great.now that i saw the tear down i do not want to go there.but i will think about refinish cause they sure do look pretty damn nice

    I had mine rebarreled 17 years ago. The barrel was shot out & I had it redone in 7,63.
    The barrel was cut off & the new one threaded in. You can see the seam where the two meet.
    Mine was done by Briklee in South El Monte, Kal. They were just supposed to do the barrel & leave it in the white.
    Instead they got it mixed up & completely redid it. Polished, remarked, blued, new springs & grips.
    We had a real showdown when they wanted me to pay for all that.
    It does look nice but I doubt that it adds much value if any.

    That was cheating to show the details of how to put it back together.
    [:D] It makes a great jigsaw puzzle. Hours of fun putting it back together.
