i have a s&w steel body guard special from the 1970s in like new condition what could i sell it for?

    Pictures would help, Please give model number and serial number.
    You can also research what they are selling for on the Auction side. Blue book for a used gun is $ 250 to $350 depending on if you have box.

    Instructions for posting photos can be found on a "sticky" near the top of the first page of this forum. We need to see all markings, including those on the side of the frame visible only when the cylinder is open, & the serial number on the bottom of the grip. Plus, we need to see the box end label & any accessories.

    So you probably have this, which is the Smith Bodyguard, model 49 in .38 special:

    Your model should have the small wood Smith grips, not the compact Pachmayr grips depicted in the image above.

    Actually, I think its probably worth a little more than some of these estimates. My guess is that if this is a truly 100% (ie "mint") condition Smith 49 from the mid-1970s its probably worth about $400-450.

    You can add another $100-150 if it has the original box and papers with it.

    First I will accept your description of the gun. Mint condition to me means 100% original with no blemishes whatsoever. Beantownshootah's estimate of the guns value seems more in line than do the cheaper estimates. Pictures are nice and sometimes essential in identifying a model and condition but when you say it is mint, 35 years old, and a bodyguard anyone should be able to visualize what the gun is without photos.
