Ruger Redhawk

Have a ruger Redhawk that someone did an action job on and the gun now only functions in double action only,do I need a new hammer or a new trigger or both can anyone help

    I have always leaned towards single actions and know little about changes in double actions of different makes over the years. What are the primary differences in a Ruger Redhawk 44 magnum and a Ruger SUPER Redhawk 44 magnum and is one better than the other? I know sometimes changes aren't good and don't work out. I did not even know about the SUPER. Thanks for any help.

    Most likely a sear. Send it back to Ruger.

    I am aware it probably the sear polished off to much so do I need a hammer or trigger or both

    I would say you need only a new hammer because the SA sear notch in the hammer has been removed and that, on its own, eliminates SA function. I'd doubt anything has been done to the trigger itself as that could effect DA function. If you can take the gun apart you should see that the rear edge of the trigger (the part that cams up the DA sear on the hammer)is sharp - that's actually the SA sear. If it's been removed it would tend to be flat. My guess is you'll find the SA sear on the trigger still intact.

    In general hammers and triggers in DA revolvers are not "drop in" parts, but if any DA revolver was going to have that ability my bet is it would be a Ruger. If you can find one (Brownells doesn't offer and Numrich is out) they're about $26.00 which is a good price. I doubt Ruger would send one to you as it seems to be one of their "gunsmith only" items.
