.45acp or .45gap

Well I did something stupid. I bought two boxes of .45gap not realizing what I had purchased. Will they shoot in my Sig.P220?
Or should I just try and trade the ammo for some .45acp?[:(!][:(!]

    Welcome to the forum. Take the 45 GAP back and trade for 45 ACP.

    No, they won't shoot in your .45ACP gun.

    Unfortunately for you many large retailers won't accept ANY returned ammunition for ANY reason. But if you bought it from a small gun store, they will probably just swap it out for some .45ACP (or give you store credit).

    If not. . .I guess you have an excuse to buy a new gun! [}:)][:p]

    (OK. . .I'd see about trading the ammo).

    Save the .45 GAP ammo. In 50 years it will be a highly prized collectible.

    As you can see there is a significant difference between the 2 rounds, thats why it wont work.

    Or you could use this as an excuse to buy a pistol in .45 GAP.

    You can always put them on the auction side. Start it either at a penny and watch people fight for it or start it close to what you want. If you price it right you should at least get back what you paid and possibly more and then you can go buy .45 ACP.

    With due respect, I strongly doubt this.

    If it were possible to make money by buying ammo at retail cost and then selling it on Gunbroker, everyone would be doing it. With potentially rare exceptions, its not.

    Shipping ammo (legally) is expensive, and it generally doesn't pay to do it for only a box or two.

    Once you factor in the added costs of shipping, anyone interested in buying just 2 boxes of GAP ammo would probably be able to get it cheaper retail at a local gun store, even that gun store charged relatively high prices.

    You could always try to sell the ammo locally, of course, but then why would someone want to buy it from you instead of the same gun local gunstore you bought it from? Answer. . .yours costs less (ie you have to lose money in the deal). Don't forget that there are listing fees if you actually sell it in auction, further increasing your costs.

    The point is, while you'll probably get MOST of your money back if you try to resell the ammo this way, I doubt you'll get ALL of it back.

    One thing you might try is seeing if a local range or gunstore might swap it for .45ACP. You'll still be out a few bucks (since GAP usually costs a bit more than ACP), but at least you'll get what you wanted to begin with.

    Advertise it in your local trading post. You must have a penny saver, thrifty nickle or trading post paper. They preceeded C-List

    or buy a Glock 37...you can find them pretty cheap!!! especially Police Trade Ins, that are very lightly used! $350-400

    I've read a few threads like this and it seems more than a few folks have made their 45 ACPs go "bang" shooting GAP - not that they bought the stuff deliberately, I'm guessing they did the same thing you did. The general consensus was the extractor hold the case in place well enough for the firing pin to impart a solid hit to the primer. I wouldn't do it or recommend it and for all I remember their gun may have jammed every other round and accuracy was crap. But to the "will they shoot ...." I'd bet the answer is yes, most of the time.

    Trading them off or stashing them seems the wise choice - if there's a "trade board" at your range maybe offer a straight swap with ACP?

    Or buy a Smith 25/625 - they'll definitely work in that gun. [8D]
