refinish a 94??
i have a well used, but not abused pre 64 winchester i would like to refinish. the gun's only worth about $400, so i don't want to spend $300 getting it re-blued. I'm also real bad at waiting for things[:I]
can anyone recommend a smaller shop that is reasonable and does good work?
are the do it yourself bluing kits any good?
I'll do the furniture myself.

well, the 'pre 64' part means it can be reblued. a simple 'hunter finish' should cost between $125/200. as to time, well a 'good' smith can be backed up for months. I have a small shop and will wait for several guns before I will 'fire up' the blueing tanks. If you were 1st in line it may take 3/4 months. 0 -
I would suggest you consider the economy of taking a $400 rifle and spending $300 to turn it into a $150 rifle! You would probably be much better off selling your rifle and using that money to buy a brand new one of your choice. 0 -

I think Ambrose has the best advise, if it were me though I'd rather just have the gun in the used condition versus a rifle thats been remodeled. A little wear from use gives the gun some character. 0 -

Yep that golden colored gun has some character, must have been once owned by a famous pimp. The engraver didn't do a very good job either, he got the ears wrong on that jackrabbit and those two coyotes chasing it have floppy ears too. And hey whats a jack rabbit doing on a M-94 anyhow? When did m-94's become rabbit guns?[:D] 0 -
That gun isn't hand engraved. It is factory commisioned acid etch. 0 -
Hello...if the finish shows normal ware (no rust pitting) I would not re-blue. Try a product called "NEVR-DULL"...a cotton wadding material that will remove light surface rust and will polish a blued finish...it will not remove the bluing. It will basically "clean-up" your model 94...then further clean up with solivent. Wipe-off everything and put oil on finish. For the WOOD...use "OLD ENGLISH" Dark Wood finish. You will be surprised...if the wood looks good...it will enhance the entire look of the gun! Of the several guns I own...the only gun I HAD to re-blue was a beautiful 1953 Model 94! Sadly it was put into a gun case wet...and the gun pitted! MY suggestion will cost you 10 Bucks...and you will have a clean decent 94...that in itself is worth having! Best to You... 0 -

I'm thinking that is a cottontail rabbit being chased by beagles. You might want to get your eyes checked, before they let the yap override yout thinking again. Also, that is a 9422, not a 94.

That's a 9422M. The matching 94 has the funky big game scenes! The factory must have had several pimps working for them when they did this pair as a matched set. [:)]0
