Leather treatment
I'm sure this question has been answered many times, but here it is again:
I just picked up a vintage holster and it's a little dry and stiff. (no cracking) I've heard that Pecards (sp?) is supposed to be really good, but I don't want to ruin the value. Any other treatment ideas?

Neatsfoot Oil 0 -
I've tried that on leather in the past, but it darkened it up something fierce. 0 -
It will darken but its the best treatment. If you have access to natural saltwater you could dip it rinse dry then coat with mink oil. Or Coachs make a pocketbook lotion that is not as penetrating.
Neatsfoot is the old tried and trued treatment for leather.0 -
I've used Pecard's on antique leather for years with excellent results.
From their website:
http://www.pecard.com/
"Pecard Antique Leather Care is the safest and longest lasting leather care on the market for old, neglected or abused leather. Recognized as the premier antique leather care for decades, it remains the foolproof and cost-efficient answer to antique leather conservation. Once properly applied (and in the amounts the leather needs), Pecard Antique Leather Care provides the deep moisturizing and lubricity necessary for old leather to resist ageing. It only takes an occasional touchup on the surface to protect the leather from the effects of surface oxidation. Used by museums and collectors everywhere, Pecard Antique Leather Care is the gold standard for antique leather conservation."0 -
Don't use anything but Pecard's. I've applied it for years with excellent results on old leather slings, holsters and other dried out leather goods. 0 -
Neatsfoot oil will seriously weaken leather if it is used where strength is important, like a strap that needs to be strong. It is good to make leather soft and pliable. 0 -
+1 on Pecard's. 0 -
Why wont they sell to NY or NJ? Are they subject to bizarre gun laws? 0 -
The majority vote wins!. Thanks Spider for the link. Ordered up a tub tonight. 0 -
