What powders do you have or are willing to buy?

    Mond,

With a 100 gr. bullet, I'm thinking start with 29 23 gr. of AA5744 (if you can get that there). For some reason I'm not finding anything about reduced loads here.

You will have to double check on that. You may call Accurate Arms to see what they say.

    Edit:

I couldn't think of the other powder that you could use at first. But, IMR makes a powder like 5744. Its IMR SR4759. Same thing. You could start about 23 gr. Somewhere around there and see if you can go down.

    -good luck

Most powders are available , pistol & rifle , i have to hand Vit 110/120/140/160 , & can get my hand on Alliant , IMR , hodgdon [:)]

For 357/308 & 7-08 the loads are as low as 8-12gr of powder, with 72-100gr head!

    best mond

I have no real experience with Vit powders. However I'd go with either IMR 4759 or Alliant 2400. Try about 18 gr of the former, 16 of the latter. These would be my best guess for your desired velocity; I've never chronographed them in a 6.5 but have used both with cast bullets; and if they don't lead, then I figure they are under 2000 fps.

What about Trail Boss? Can you get that there?

Just read an article in Handloader magazine about it. I'd like to try some myself.

Lyman used to have a publication on lead bullet loads.
Here's one that fits your criteria. An NRA load of 13gr Dupont 4759, 87gr Speer ptd soft point for a velocity of 1611fps, Norma case, CCI 200 primer.

Good point there V35, I thought of that last night.

Anyhow, what I show is a bunch of stuff for 140 gr. and 150 gr. alloy bullets from the Lyman #49:

    140 gr / 150 gr.

    Mond,

Sorry about that, those are Lyman. You can use lead or lead/antimony if you want.

I think you can purchase the bullets on-line if they don't have them there locally.

Are some of those hotter lead bullet loads using gas checked bullets?
    That might complicate Monds' project.

FWIW, I did have some chrono data on reduced loads, a bit under your desired speed.

Red Dot- 140 gr Remington spire point

    8gr - 990 fps
    9 gr- 1020
    10 gr- 1100

All very mild, none too accurate. Could probably go with more powder.
