1911AI, Original or Parts Gun?

    Mixed parts gun.

    SerNo 740592 stamped on the frame is a M1911 made late 1914 by The US Armory, Springfield, Mass.

    My sincere apologies. I looked up SerNo 74592 by mistake (and overlooked the middle digit).

    As noted in the post immediately below, your pistol is a M1911A1, and was manufactured by Colt in 1941. My error, and I sincerely apologize to you, and to the folks that have given this forum its reputation for accuracy. Joe

    According to my reference 740592 was made by Colt in 1941. I seem to remember although it's been a long time since I've seen one, that the early W W II Colts were blued. Don't remember what the cut-off date was when they started Parkerizing?

    We really need pictures As you can tell two very knowledgeable people have different opinions of what you describe. . Before that the only thing for sure is 1911 frames dont have a cut in the frame behind the trigger guard and Late WW II guns were parkerized all WW I guns were Black or Blue.
