922R compliance???

Can one of you pros please explain why...

(reference Saiga- 12) If I change the configuration from a factory stock to a pistol grip I have to then change three more parts to be in compliance with 922R?
Can't be more than 10 foreign parts on gun. (14 in out of box configuration)

I know all I need to be in compliance is a US made mag. which equals 3 parts + pistol grip = 1 and that makes 14.

WTH is this all about? Is it just Gub'mint BS?

    The 1989 ban on "non-sporting" firearms is still in effect. Basically guns that are not "sporting" are ban from import. This is why things like REAL Uzi, Galil, HK, FAL, AK are so expensive and guns like Sig 551/2, and many of the other cool guns built after 1989 are not found for sale in the US.

    By adding enough US parts to an imported firearm it is no longer considered an import so you can build as you like. During 1994-2004 you could not have made a gun compliant and changed it because there was the same ban on US built "non-sporting" firearms.

    So yes .Gov BS.

    So is this law still applicable to my situation?

    (So sorry, I would have to be an attorney to understand all that gibberish stated on the link)

    I believe that in order to make a Saiga 922R compliant you need to replace a total of 6 parts with those made in the USA. Although a replacement stock, if it was made in the USA, counts as one part, a USA made pistol grip does not count as a part since the Saiga did not come with a pistol grip to begin with (therefore a pistol grip cannot be a replacement part). TAPCO used to ahve a kit that has the needed parts to do this conversion, but I don't know of it is still offered.

    From reading your posts over in General Discussion I know that you do not place much emphasis on exact wording and specifics and prefer to just look at things in a general context, but in this case you need to pay attention to the hard details in order to be fully compliant.

    Sir, if I wasn't going to be paying attention to specifics why would I be asking these questions? Oh, and thanks for telling me how much attention I pay to details.[;)]

    When dealing with 922R, or any firearms regulation, compliance to the specific regulation and not the context ('who said what' in this case being the BATFE) is vital...If you want to keep out of trouble.
