One more 45-70 Question...

I'm working with a Marlin that has a 16" barrel...I'd like to get all the velocity I can behind the bullet. What powders would you recommend to get the most velocity out of a shorter barrel??? I'd like to be able to shoot out to 200 yards with this rifle...and I also want plenty of energy if I ever have to use it in a bear encounter. Thanks!

    You might think about IMR 4198 or 30-31.

    Reloader #7 works good for shorter barrled 45-70s, I've had good results with it.
