High Standard Duramatic not feeding
My dad gave me his High Standard Duramatic thinking I was going to sell it because I need cash. He doesn't get the gun freak mentality at all. How could I sell the first handgun I ever fired?
The factory magazine is definitely having issues so I bought an after market mag that looks to be in new condition. It doesn't feed right at all. At least with the factory mag it doesn't jam until the third round tries to feed. I had kids with me on their first range trip so I didn't try to fool with it at the time. I only Winchester High Velocity ammo and I plan on trying different ammo, but I don't think that's the issue. Any other suggestions for next time I go to the range?

Most aftermarket magazines seem to be Triple K and they have had a checkered reputation.
Is your factory magazine one of the cadmium plated magazines?
Is the magazine clean? Soak it in naptha or kerosene if you suspect it needs cleaning.
Do the magazine feed lips show sighs of damage or of being bent?0 -
Clean it really good, specially the chamber and extractor. Use CCI mini-mag solids next time you take it out. The Duramatic is a striker fired pistol with two springs behind the bolt. Both the firing pin and recoil springs are pretty stout. If it hasn't been really cleaned and well lubricated their might be functioning problems with marginal ammo. A lot of .22 ammo is sold as high speed and high velocity but really isn't. I have shot up a bunch of that Winchester 333 stuff, it's accurate but not really loaded as hot as the mini-mags. 0 -
The first time I took my duramatic to the range it did not function well at all.I had just purchased it from a pawn shop and wanted to see how well it would shoot. The person who owned it before me obviously never cleaned it other than the bore . so all the internals and the mag were really crudded up . I took the gun apart and cleaned it until it was " hospital clean " including the mag which I soaked in mineral spirits for a day . Now my gun operates flawlessly other than the shooting high problem I'm having . 0 -

I'm not sure how to tell if the factory mag is cadmium plated or not. I'm reasonably sure it's original to the gun. The lips are a little out of whack making it a little difficult to load.
I will do a thorough clean and lube before taking it to the range again and report back.0 -
Hi Standard guns lack a feed ramp and as such rely on the angle of the magazine feed lips for proper loading.
"Tuning" the mag lips may be necessary to get the gun to function properly. This may help a little:

your duramatic doesnt have a frame. check to ensure the GRIP is TIGHT FIRST. since the grip IS THE mag well, if its loose, it misaligns the mag.
use only a factory mag and do the lip mod as mentioned. and make sure its a DURAMATIC mag. john can tell you the differences. then recheck and let us know the results.0
