Daewoo DR200 barrels
Okay. The situation with Vepr mags is solved.
On to my next project - Daewoo DR200.
I fired the gun - very nice very comfy. There is only ONE problems. 1:14 twist rate barrels. Is there any way to put in an AR15 barrel? From what I heard (and I may be wrong), Daewoo 200 upper is VERY SIMILAR to AR15 upper.
How do I replace the barrel in Daewoo?
Here is why I want it. Yes, I COULD get an AR15 gas piston, but it would still be an AR15 (and after seeing AR15 choke on WOLF AMMO after 50 shots I will NEVER buy it), and have crappy, super fragile extractor which can't handle steel cased ammo.

Just looked at a schematic and the 2 barrels are totally different as how they attach to their respective receivers. 0 -
This is true, they are completely and totally different.
The DR200s have 1:12 bbls, since they had plenty left over after the mid-80s changeover to 62gr. The DR series were imported between 90 and 94.
There are few available 1:7 bbls available and those are taken off of "parts guns". K2s, AR100s or Max 2s disassembled for parts.
I have an excellent condition one, reparked, complete with gasblock and gas tube and barrel extension, for 350.
There are no 1:9 bbls. Such would be relatively easy to make, except that the barrel extensions are totally different as well. The bbl extensions would need to be removed and headspace re-established on each barrel. It's not easy. I've put AR barrels on Daewoos. It required the changeover of the old barrel extension, and a bunch of contouring and fabricating journals on the barrel for the gasblock to bed on.
This requires an AR bbl with an UNDRILLED gas port, as the gas ports are in completely different positions on Daewoos.0 -
The extractor on the Woo is the same as an AR, except longer.
The steel cased garbage ammo will run fine in Daewoos...for awhile...because it's not the extractor that's the problem, it's that the steel cases do not expand as rapidly nor completely as brass and the inside of the chamber gets fouled to the point where the extractor tears off a portion of the head...extractor strength or design is less important than sloppy chambers. 5.56mm AKs have pretty sloppy chambers.0 -
So, basically what you are saying is that it isn't worth it to get it.
Sure, I would love 1:7 barrel, they go for about $1200 on gunbroker, the problem is that there are no spare barrels available, and, for the same money, I can get a Gas piston AR15 on which I will be able to swap barrels and bolts to use different calibers 5.56x45, 7.62x39, 5.45x39.
Thats a damned shame. I really like Daewoo rifle.
I know a dude who can put AR barrels into AKs but removing barrel extension and just pushing it in, as if it was an AK barrel, since AK bolt locks to the front trunnion and not to barrel itself. I hoped it is the same way with Daewoo DR200, so the new barrel can be just pressed in.
Speaking of this. If gas port is drilled, isn't it possible to just put a slieve over the gun port and drill a new one in a different place?

It is possible, but you would be best to have a blank cut to your needs IMHO.. The port hole will errode over time. It may be possible to fill the port hole then sleeve it, but that could be dangerious. 0
