I have a Colt Police Positive .32 Police CTG. with last patent date of October 5, 1926. Serial #339756.

Can you help with age of gun and what type of cartridge can be safely used in this gun. I have never fired it, and it has been in my gun safe for 20 years.

    Thank you

Sounds like you have a "Stylize C" version of the Colt logo.
The Rampant Horse inside a circle first appeared about 1890, and has evolved quite a bit

Follow this link to see pics of the evolution.

Thanks, that pretty much answers my question. I was pretty sure it wasn't put on there after it left the factory.

One other question about this gun. What is the value in about 85%, looks to have original finish, with C.P.D. stamped on the bottom of the grip frame? I assume this with bring the post back to the top, so I didn't start a new thread.

A "smart search" on the auction side indicates completed auctions for similar revolvers at about $300. The C.P.D. is likely a police department issued your Colt at some point. Might bring a few extra bucks, especially if you could determine what Dept. that was.
