I would use some Loctite 609. It is a clear dark green in color, and a medium strength thread locker. It can be removed without heat, but the proper sized screw driver is a must. I personally have used it in the past, but now use the red 242 of high strength. So what if I have to hit it with a Burnz-O-Matic for a few seconds to get it out.

+1 to loctite on the retaining screw.

    Cheap and non-permanent.

I'd start with the ordinary blue stuff before moving onto the more sticky green (and personally I wouldn't use the red for this particular application).

I have a stainless MKIII w/target sights that had the same problem. I used the blue (medium) loc-tite and it worked for me.

Lost the first front sight on my Ruger MKII almost 20 years ago. When I replaced it...Loc-tite. Still holding after all these years and about 30,000 rounds

I would send it to the factory. Ruger is fairly quick in returning guns and you bought a new gun so it should be in perfect condition, not some make do home repair.

That "make do home repair", is the same repair a professional gunsmith, or Sturm, Ruger & Company would use if you sent it back.

Another vote for blue Loctite. Had the same problem with a Coonan shooting 357 Mag. 2,000 rounds (appx) later, its still there.

Use blue Loctite or fingernail polish. Both work about the same.
