silencer threads????
just picked up a 9mm can and got the 9mm 1911 barrel that i ordered threaded for same.
the threaded barrel is too big for the can threads. i'm guessing the can is 1/2-28, but i don't have an inside thread gauge. I didn't specify when i ordered the barrel and the supplier (well known) didn't ask. the battery in my caliper is dead, but the barrel looks more like 9/16" to my eye and the threads look more like a 36. also, it won't thread into a 1/2" drill gauge and that's the largest i have. the can is NOT metric threaded (LH).
am i confused, or is 1/2-28 "standard" for a 9mm can?

I can"t seem to get your barrel picture to a high enuff resolution on my computer screen to measure the end, But many 1911 barrels are .575" x 40 tpi. Many cans are .500" x 28 tpi.[;)] 0 -
In current 9mm cans 1/2x28 is most common. In the Colt 9mm AR's use 1/2x36 so you can not accidently thread on a .223 FH.
There are also lots of large odd threads on things like the Uzi and Mac family. Most euro guns use a L hand thread and often metric on factory barrels.
So long story short while 1/2x28 is most common it is far from the only thread pitch out there. I have a 9mm can with a 5/8x24 threaded end cap to using on my .300 Whisper.

just heard back from the barrel guy, he said it's threaded to "standard" 0.57x X 28, but i swear it looks like 36tpi. anyway, i guess i either have 1/2 X28 or M16RH. i'll bring it to the local machine shop and find out. i guess i'll have them make up an adapter while i'm there.

If you have to go the adapter route make sure the guy who makes it knows what he's doing. Both the male and female threads on the adapter have to be in precise alignment with the centerline of the bore. If the set up on the lathe isn't done correctly and there is misalignment there is always a chance that when the bullet is fired it will hit the internal baffles, which is never a good thing. If you have doubts about the competency of your local machinist it might be best to send it out to somebody who is experienced on machining barrels to mount suppresors.0 -
