U.S.N. Cutlass

anyone know where i can get one of these ?

when i was in U.S.N. Boot Camp 1955ad, they were quite common, also my gun shop partner, 1972ad, had 5 of them, yet i was too stupid to buy one from him. now they are nearly impossible to find.

    That's a US Model 1917 naval cutlass.

    right on my friend, the ones my partner had, had a blued steel hand guard, no scabbard, i believe the one in my photo is a repro. and the photo you posted is an original, although i seem to recall (nearly 40 years ago !!) they had black bakelite handles.


    yes, us55840, i checked them out and they present a "glitzy" GOLD plated model which i would not use to slash weeds with.

    Yes, the one you pictured is a repro. I think Cold Steel makes them.

    I read somewhere that the last documented use of a U.S. Navy Cutlass to dispatch an enemy was in Korea in 1950. A U.S. Navy engineer has a Model 1917 Cutlass while he was on the Pusan Perimeter and killed a North Korean soldier with it.

    I have no idea why he had it, but if true its a great story.
