Help with a BIPOD please.

I have a 1952 Winchester Model 70 that I want to put a Harris bipod on. The front sling swivel just screws out.

Do I have to buy some kind of adapter or will the Harris just screw into the front sling swivel hole? Thanks!

    The Harris bipod attaches to a detachable sling swivel stud.
    You need one of those to replace the plain swivel on your rifle.

    You should consider a sling swivel which attached through the inside of the forearm and the stud attaches from the outside. This will give you some more rigidity when mounting the bipod to the swivel.

    The reason for the added rigidity is because of the technique of 'loading' the bipod before the shot. The shooter should actually push down and forward a little before releasing the shot.

    Pay close attention to the area of contact between the bipod and the forearm. The Harris bipods come with a little foam piece on each surface but this can 'glue' itself to the forearm necessitating a removal step when taking the bipod off. You don't want to ruin the finish on the wood.

    Madman: It's 270 Winchester. I bought the rifle in 1982 still in its box with the other half of a box of Super X ammo. It was a one owner with all the paperwork and the gentleman I bought it from guaranteed me he had only shot it 10 times. I shot the other 10 and put it in my safe for the last 28 years. It had a Weaver El Paso KV on it which I have taken off and put back in its box. I put a Nikon 4X12X40 BDC on and am going to start shooting it. The rifle is absolutely pristine. Paid $400.00 for it.
