I have a Thompson Contender that I would like to give a "thorough" clean to. It's an older model from what I understand, with the serial range in the 36,000 mark. Anyway, |there is no screw underneath the front "forearm". I have been told to take the forearm off first, then there is a roll pin which retains the barrel to the receiver. I do not necessarily want to remove the barrel, just the front portion or stock.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Just pull the forearm off, open the action, pop out the pin and you're all set.

    It has a snap on forend.Sometimes a little hard to get off.

    I have not attempted to take the forend off yet, but want to make sure if I understand correctly. Do I pull down from the underside of the barrel, or do I pull away from the receiver towards the muzzle end?

    The fore end pulls straight down from the barrel and action..

    Although not specifically stated I know if you don't remove the forend you can't switch out barrels - so you have a Contender with only one barrel? You have much mor self control then me. [;)]

    Anyway, once you remove the stock drifting out the pin is easy. Just tap it out, maybe hit the holes with a shot of oil and the locking lugs too. Although going through the top should allow for oiling the action going in through the front works fine too.
