CZ 204 Ruger Question
How difficult would it be to set back the barrel on a CZ 527 204 Ruger to make it a 20 Vartag?

5mmgunguy,
The key to setting the barrel back is the shape and length of the barrel tenon/chamber.
The .204 Ruger is the .222 Remington Magnum at 1.843" case length.
The .20 Vartarg is the .221 Fireball at 1.400" case length.
All this means is that you have to lose at least 0.450" just to get started. If the chamber section of the barrel isn't long enough to allow for a new thread tenon then you're out of luck.
Be aware that these threads are metric and your Gunsmith needs to be able to cut metric threads. The only reason I point this out is that some 'smiths have lathes that aren't set up for metric threads.

I have done a couple of these 20 vartarg conversions. the best thing to use is an action/magazine set up for the 221 fireball. I have also converted/shortened the CZ 5 shot mags to flush mount 3 shot. If you have questions email them. I am out of towm at work but will reply ASAP. Red 0
